Two recent postgraduate students are settling into life in
the fast lane with prestigious internships at Bentley Motors Limited, where they
will be implementing the findings of their Masters dissertation.
David Yodaiken, MSc Organizational Psychology (from the UK),
and Saloni Dikshit,MSc Business Psychology (from India), completed their Masters
degrees at Leeds University Business School in August this year.
For their final dissertation, they delivered a consultancy
project for Bentley Motors titled ‘Creating a cost-conscious culture within a
luxury automotive industry’. After presenting their findings to senior managers
at the UK headquarters, they were offered 12-month internships to continue the
project and help to implement their recommendations.
Saloni explains, “The opportunity for the project came from
the Business School’s existing relationship with Bentley Motors, through the
Socio-Technical Centre. We made recommendations on how the product
cost-optimisation department can approach organisational change. We applied the
theoretical knowledge from our course, like systems thinking, to suggest how
the organisation can take a holistic approach to change.”
Lucy Bolton at the Business School’s Socio-Technical Centre has been
working with Bentley Motors on research projects since 2013. Building on this
relationship, both students were excited to be offered the opportunity to
continue their project and work from the UK headquarters of the global car
manufacturer.
David explains, “The internship is a great opportunity to
develop my skills and gain some experience at a multinational organisation.
Having such an organisation on my CV will be worth its weight in gold. Combined
with the learning we will gain, I'm very excited for the future.”
The internships are also providing the opportunity to work
on a range of other projects within the cost-optimisation department. Saloni
says, “I am also involved with activities like competitor analysis and process
improvements. For example, I’m looking at several different engineering
software available to employees and suggesting how to promote and improve their
use across the organisation.”
